What Safeguarding Means at Stanah
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.
At Stanah Primary School, safeguarding means:
- Protecting children from abuse, neglect and harm
- Promoting children’s physical and emotional wellbeing
- Ensuring children feel safe, listened to and supported
- Teaching children how to stay safe in school, online and in the community
- Working closely with families and external agencies
- Acting promptly and appropriately when concerns arise
We follow the statutory guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education (2025) and work closely with Lancashire safeguarding partners.
All staff receive regular safeguarding training and understand their responsibility to report concerns immediately.
How to Raise a Concern
If you are worried about a child:
Speak to any member of staff – they will report your concern to a Designated Safeguarding Lead.
Ask to speak directly to a Designated Safeguarding Lead.
Contact Lancashire MASH on 0300 123 6720.
In an emergency, contact the police on 999.
We treat all concerns seriously.
Children will be listened to and supported appropriately.
Operation Encompass
Stanah Primary School is part of Operation Encompass.
Operation Encompass is a partnership between schools and the police. It ensures that when police attend an incident of domestic abuse where a child is present, the school is informed before the next school day.
This allows trained staff to provide immediate and appropriate support to the child.
Online Safety
Technology plays an important role in children’s lives. We are committed to teaching children how to use the internet safely, responsibly and respectfully.
Children are taught to:
• Keep personal information private
• Recognise unsafe content or contact
• Report concerns to a trusted adult
• Use technology responsibly
We use filtering and monitoring systems on school devices to protect pupils from harmful content.

Prevent Duty
As part of our safeguarding responsibilities, we follow the Government’s Prevent Duty.
This means we work to protect children from being drawn into extremism or radicalisation. Staff receive appropriate training and we promote values of tolerance, respect and critical thinking.
Any concerns are managed in line with national safeguarding guidance.
Safer Recruitment
Stanah Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
We ensure that:
• All staff and volunteers undergo enhanced DBS checks
• Appropriate barred list checks are completed
• Recruitment panels include Safer Recruitment trained members
• References and employment history are carefully scrutinised
Safeguarding is embedded throughout our recruitment processes.
